Methodist Stone Oak Hospital Expands Women’s Services Methodist Stone Oak Hospi- tal has expanded its women’s services area to offer more space for new moms and their arrivals. The expansion is in response to the rising demand for healthcare services in rap- idly growing North Central San Antonio. “This $28 million-dollar investment in our Women’s Services reflects our new di- rection in promoting overall women’s health,” said Marc Strode, CEO, Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. “This spans not just obstetrics but our fertil- ity center, NICU and women’s surgery program. As this pro- gram has developed, we have welcomed many new doctors to our medical staff and expect to welcome more before the end of the year.” The addition of nearly 14,000 square feet of space will house new labor and delivery facilities and a tran- sitional nursery. It also will enable Methodist Stone Oak to add their third operating room suite. “This is our third expan- sion since 2009 as we know it is important to invest in our infrastructure and technology to properly service our com- munity,” he added. Sleep Centers at Methodist Healthcare Offer Continuumof Care An estimated 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from wakeful- ness that hinders daily functions and affects their health. Cumula- tive, long-term effects can lead to increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke. These health issues can lead to oth- ers that affect quality of life and longevity. When patients are experi- encing chronic sleeplessness, physicians will typically order a sleep study to gather evi- dence of a disorder, like sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and parasomnias. A sleep study is a non-invasive, overnight exam conducted while a person sleeps. It monitors brain activity and body functions, including eye movements, body positions, heart rates and rhythms, blood pressure levels, and oxygen satu- ration levels. Methodist Healthcare System has sleep centers at four of its hospitals—Methodist Texsan Hospital, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, Northeast Methodist Hospital, and Methodist Hospital South. Cumulatively, they serve San Antonio; Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties; the Hill Country; and South Texas. The Sleep Center at Methodist Texsan Hospital is the largest, with a new location on the first floor of Methodist Texsan Plaza, adjacent to the hospital at 6800 IH-10 West (frontage road). Park- ing in the surface lot provides easy access to a waiting area that leads to four private rooms with sleep-by-number queen beds. A large private bathroom offers a shower and towels for people needing to go directly to work after a night’s sleep study. What is also unique about Sleep Centers at Methodist Healthcare is the continuum of care the programs provide to patients, including instructions and guidance throughout the sleep study process and follow- up support. The Methodist South Sleep Center conducts a variety of tests using the latest technology in themed rooms, such as God Bless America, Country Living and Soothing Rustic.
