Officers of the San Antonio Police Department are able to wear protective masks when responding to calls thanks in part to the Methodist Hospital Blue Bird Auxiliary. The mission of the Blue Bird Auxiliary is to serve hospital campuses throughout Methodist Healthcare, volunteering services to patients, patient families, and medical and administrative staff. When the chance arose to help the first responders of San Antonio during the unimaginable coronavirus pandemic, Lynelle Stigent and the team of Blue Birds at Methodist Hospital were eager to step forward and provide help. “When the initial request came to us to sew masks, we were fortunate to have most of the supplies and the expertise to execute this request,” commented Stigent, Blue Bird Sewing Chair. A San Antonio police officer and brother of a Methodist Hospital nurse initially expressed the need for more protective gear for the police department and could not be more thankful for the generosity of the Blue Birds. “We were ready to help whoever was in need of a mask. When it was brought to our attention that the police department did not have an ample supply of masks, we were happy to send them some. It was a pleasure that we could help the San Antonio Police Department in a small but beneficial way,” said Stigent. One hundred cloth masks in unique patterns and designs were delivered to the San Antonio Police Department. “This kind gesture by the Blue Birds is why we at the San Antonio Police Department love the community we serve so much,” commented Officer Doug Greene, San Antonio Police Department Public Information Officer. “We are very grateful for their labor of love and thoughtfulness. This is what San Antonio is all about!” METHODIST HOSPITAL BLUE BIRDS Donate 100Masks TO SAN ANTONIO POLICE DEPARTMENT 4 S U M M E R 2 0 2 0 K E E P I N G W E L L
