A fond farewell and a
hello to an exciting future
As a young girl, I was shy and reserved. The
reality of constantly finding change along my
path was absolutely terrifying. When I started
my job at Methodist Healthcare almost eight
years ago, I was only 23 years old, fresh out of
college and completely lost. My director at the
time, Debbie Wampler, figured that out! She
encouraged me and pushed me out of my comfort
zone so often that one day I looked back and
could no longer find that warm spot where I once
stood, nervous and very green.
Every day since then, I’ve moved forward in my
life and career, faster and harder than the day before. I embrace change and
the lessons that Debbie taught me, because moving forward has earned me
so many wonderful lessons, loved ones and experiences. It has become time
to turn another corner in my career at Methodist Healthcare: I have accepted
a new role as our digital marketing specialist. I’m excited and scared all over
again, but I’m stronger and eager because I know this is a good change for
me. Besides, if something isn’t at least a little scary, is it really worth doing?
Wish me luck in my new adventures! I’m leaving you in the capable hands
of Carole Harris, community relations specialist. In the words of John F.
Kennedy, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past
or present are certain to miss the future.”

Embracing change with a
wonderful support team
Change—not everyone embraces it. There is
something reassuring about staying in our
comfort zone. I always order the same thing at
restaurants. Why? Because I know I like it and
I don’t want to be disappointed with something
new. I’m the person who has only worked for
three different companies since graduating from
college 17 years ago.
While I love to be challenged, change has always
made me a bit uncomfortable. When my boss
approached me and asked if I would be willing to
accept this new role with new responsibilities, I
immediately said, “Yes!” It surprised me that I said this without hesitation.
Since then, I’ve had a few weeks to digest and ask questions about my
new responsibilities, and I have realized I have a team of colleagues who
are there for me. They are rooting for me, wanting me to succeed. All of a
sudden, this big change doesn’t seem so intimidating, because I know I’m
surrounded by people who support me and are there for me. When you
surround yourself with people who believe in you, the sky is the limit and
that mountain of change that once looked so big can be easily conquered.

New parking areas for
Methodist Hospital campus
With construction well underway at Method-
ist Hospital, it’s important that all patients and
guests know about changes in parking to help
make things easier when visiting the hospitals
located at  Floyd Curl Drive. The self-parking
surface lot on Floyd Curl has closed and will even-
tually become a nine-story parking structure.
In the meantime, patients and guests can
continue to park in Garage , located off of Louis
Pasteur Street near the emergency department,
or in Garage  and the Oak Hills surface lot,
which can be entered at Ewing Halsell Street near
the Oak Hills Medical Building, at Ewing Halsell

still enjoy discounted parking rates as part of
their membership when parking in any parking
area. Expectant moms in labor and parents with
babies in the newborn intensive care unit are en-
couraged to park in the surface lot located in front
of the Oak Hills Medical Building at  Louis
