Methodist Healthcare System | Keeping Well | Fall 2020
The Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak Rehabilitation Center has opened, providing patients with the highest quality in- patient rehabilitation services based on a patient-centered approach. Plans for the freestanding facility began last spring, when Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak acquired Select Rehabilitation Hospital of San Antonio. “Select Rehabilitation Hospital of San Antonio has historically done an excellent job of providing inpatient therapy services to help patients return to independence and activities of daily living after an injury. We have a long tradition of partnering with Select to take care of patients in our community. We are so excited this hospital is part of our Methodist family,” said Marc Strode, CEO of Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak. With this acquisition, Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak’s inpatient rehabilitation capacity has grown from its existing 15 beds on its main campus to 42 beds at the new facility. Methodist Hospital officially opened a new ambula- tory surgery center, located at 110 Menger Springs Road in Boerne, Texas. The new 15,744-square-foot center provides families of Boerne and Kendall County a local option for same-day surgical care, including diagnostic and preventive procedures. The surgical site houses three operating rooms and two treatment rooms utilized for gastrointestinal cases, esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGDs), and colonoscopies. The $13.1 million surgery center is part of a larger Methodist Boerne Medical Center expansion project which began in 2008 with the opening of Methodist Hospital ER | Boerne and a medical office building. Methodist Surgery Center | Boerne is a joint venture between various private-practicing physicians and an affiliate of Methodist Healthcare System, MHS Surgery Centers, L.P. The surgery center specializes in general and specific surgeries including colorectal, orthopedic, neuro-spine and ophthalmology. Ad- ditionally, a full-time Methodist Healthcare team is employed at the facility, including OR nurses, scrub techs, pre-op nurses, post-anesthesia care, GI techs and the business office. “It’s an exciting opportunity to serve Kendall County and surrounding areas through expanded care for patients, while also offering community phy- sicians another option for their work,” commented Beth Schleif, Administrator for Methodist Surgery Center | Boerne. “With so many of our staff being local residents, we are able to combine Methodist excellence with hometown hospitality to bring the community the world-class care of Methodist Healthcare in their own backyard.” Methodist Healthcare recognized the emerging growth of the Kendall County area and developed the Methodist Boerne Medical Center to provide families with convenient access to emergency care and hospital-based outpatient procedures.
