METHODIST HEALTHCARE ADDS FACILITIES IN CITY’S FASTEST GROWING AREAS Methodist Healthcare has announced expan- sion plans in two of the city’s most rapidly growing areas, giving residentsmore convenient access to Methodist Healthcare services. METHODIST IN WESTOVER HILLS Since 2006, the U.S. Census Bureau has recognized San Antonio’s rapid growth. Most of that growth is concen- trated in west and northwest Bexar County, including the neighborhoods of Westover Hills and Alamo Ranch. In Oc tober, Methodist Hea lthcare opened Methodist ER | Westover Hills offering the commu- nity convenient access to the most advanced imaging technology, air transport for the most critically ill, and direct access to Methodist Hospital’s advanced trauma services. The free-standing ER is open 24/7, 365 days a year and is located at 5538 W. Loop 1604 N. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the emergency room, Allen Harrison, Methodist Healthcare CEO, announced plans to develop a Westover Hills medical campus. The expansion of healthcare services will begin with a new medical office building bringing primary care and a variety of specialists to the area, as well as an ambulatory surgery center, culminating with an acute-care hospital that will provide residents with the Methodist Healthcare quality they deserve. Groundbreaking for the new building is planned for spring 2020 with groundbreaking for the hospital to follow. “We not only believe it is our responsibility to pro- vide medical access where families work and live, but our calling to connect them with the highest quality of healthcare,” commented Harrison. “This is only the beginning. A community like Westover Hills that will continue to grow and welcome new neighbors year af- ter year needs a healthcare provider that can keep up, growing right along with them.” Methodist Healthcare to Offer Community Training in Hands-Only CPR Eighty percent of cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital setting, and 92 percent of those victims do not survive because bystanders often do not step forward to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Methodist Healthcare is partnering with the American Heart Association on the Hands-Only CPR Community Initiative. The goal of the program is to save lives by training the community in Hands-Only CPR. “Our community members need to not only know their risks for heart disease and stroke, but also how they can save a stranger or a loved one’s life when prevention is not enough,” said Palmira Arellano, Vice President, Communications and Community Affairs for Methodist Healthcare. “San Antonio residents currently only have a 35 percent chance that someone will intervene with CPR when needed. Through Methodist Hospital CEO Named Chair of 2020 Heart and Stroke Walk Dan Miller, CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital, is chair of the 2020 San Antonio Heart and Stroke Walk. He knows the impact that heart disease can have on a family. His grandfather passed away from a heart attack, and his father has had multiple cardiac interventions. In addition, Methodist facilities treated more than 85,000 heart patients in 2018. Held in November, the walk is the premier fund- raising event for the American Heart Association, and more than 10,000 individuals participated last year. “By participating in the walk, individuals can take an important step toward saving lives,” said Miller. “Last year more than one million Heart Walk Heroes from across the nation raised funds for life-saving research into heart disease and stroke. Some walked in memory of a loved one lost to heart disease or stroke. Others walked to recognize a heart disease or stroke survivor.” “I hope that area residents will help us keep hearts beating by accepting the challenge to par- ticipate in the walk,” he added.
